Class Descriptions
(to view our Schedule of classes please click here)

For the most part classes are listed in order of general pace and difficulty. Unique classes where the postures are specific to that type of class, such as Kids Yoga, Family Yoga, Nithya Yoga, Kundalini, & Prenatal/Baby & Me Yoga, are listed at the bottom in no particular order.

Relax Yoga with Healing Sounds

A completely relaxing practice where the student will move through restorative supported postures, tune in to breath, and deeply release physical tension. Tibetan and Crystal Healing Bowls will be played during class in order to facilitate complete surrender and relaxation and take one into a deep state of peace.
Class length: 1 hr 15 min.

Gentle Yoga

Relax and restore as you are completely supported with yoga props, allowing a wonderful peaceful opening to occur. A perfect class for active adults and any age student who is just getting familiar with yoga or who wishes to practice at a little slower pace. Focus will be on seated and supine poses for opening the body gradually and gently; a few standing poses may be introduced. Great for releasing stiff joints, increasing overall range of motion and flexibility and wonderful for finding a meditative state-calming the mind, and relieving stress.
Class length: 1 hr 15 min.

Yoga Fundamentals

In this class the student will learn the fundamentals of yoga, including Asana (posture), Pranayama (moving Prana via breath), Dhyana (meditation), and teachings from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. A small portion of the class will be verbal explanation of why we practice yoga, why we meditate, and explanation of the essence of yoga itself. Great for students who wish to know more about yoga as they are opening to the practice; a good place to ask questions and get answers.
Class length: 1 hr 15 min.

Level 1

For the beginner student, in this class the fundamentals of yoga asana will be practiced at a comfortable pace for all. Learn the shape and basic alignment of the major poses used in Sun Salutations, standing and seated sequences. Breathing techniques and breath awareness along with body awareness will be highlighted. This is the place to try it out, experience yoga for the first time or get back to basics.
Class length: 1 hr or 1hr 15min.

Level I/II

Great comprehensive classes for new and seasoned practitioners alike. Students will move from one pose to another without the use of the 'flow' (vinyasa); poses will be practiced at a gentle pace. Demonstrations of poses will be given and modifications and variations will be suggested for each individuals needs. Breath work, meditation and asana will be blended together to uplift and energize while at the same time creating an overall calmness. Props such as blocks, blankets and straps will be used to assist students in obtaining their fullest potential.
Class length: 1 hr 15 min. and 1.5 hrs

Intro to Vinyasa

Learn and practice Vinyasa, the linking together of yoga postures, combining breath with movement in order to build strength and flexibility. This class is designed for the student who has a bit of yoga experience; those wanting to learn the Vinyasa (flow) style of yoga. Alignment techniques are incorporated in the postures while maintaining focus on breath and inner awareness. Yoga is ideal for learning stress relief methods, balancing energy, and for overall health. This class offers some type of Sun Salutations, taken at a gentle pace, to warm and energize the body, moving into standing, balancing and seated poses which strengthen, define, lengthen and tone the entire body. Inversions of various types (ranging from supine with legs up the wall to handstands and headstands) may be taught to get a taste of going upside-down. In Susan's classes the use of her Yoga Heart sandbags will give students an opportunity to fine tune their awareness while in the poses.
Class length: 1.5 hrs

Yoga - in a heated room

This yoga class is offered in a warm space (84-87°), incorporating traditional Vedic Sun Salutations with Mantras (sacred sounds), balancing poses to clear and purify the mind, and twisting poses to help detoxify and purify the body. Maintaining a deep awareness of Ujjayi breathing to generate internal heat, energy locks (Maha Bandha) to awaken the internal energy, and focal point (Drishti) to concentrate. All of these elements will help you go deep inside and reconnect with the Divinity that you Are.
Bring your own yoga mat, beach towel, and your own optional blanket. Come with an empty stomach and open mind. Drink plenty of water after class.
Class length: 1.5 hrs

All Level

These classes are perfect for any level student...from beginner to advanced, as each student can modify the pose for their needs. Instructors may incorporate alignment techniques in postures with a strong focus on breath and inner awareness. Pranayama (breath and energy expansion) techniques, asana (postural), and meditation techniques will be blended to create a setting for deep introspection and awareness. These classes are ideal for learning stress relief methods, for balancing energy, and for overall health. Most classes offer a flow of postures and some variation of Sun Salutations to warm and energize the body, moving through standing and balancing poses and seated poses which strengthen, define, lengthen and tone the entire body. Each class will end with a supine meditation. Designed for all levels but taught at a slightly faster pace than a Level I, Level I/II, or Gentle class.
NOTE: Every teacher teaches differently...try two or three teachers to find your niche.
Class length: 1.5 hrs.

All Level (with Ingrid)

This is a practice in a peaceful, sacred, friendly environment, incorporating many different elements of Yoga. In the Asana (postures) we will flow gracefully with the breath and deep awareness of our bodies using alignment principals and modifications to discover our own personal practice in a safe and effective way. We will incorporate Bandhas (energy locks) to activate our Chakras (energy centers). Breathing fully…we will experiment with different Pranayama techniques to expand the life force and reawaken Self. We will use Mantras (chanting) at the beginning and end of our practice to center, to vibrate, to unify with the Divine.
A deeply meditative class complete with a full range of movements to increase strength, flexibility, and grace, all while centered on Divine Self.
Class length:  1.5 hrs.

Yin-Vinyasa Mix

A combination of the deeply meditative Yin postures followed by graceful beginning/intermediate Vinyasa (flowing movements with breath). Part of the class will be dedicated to Yin/Restorative postures, the other part of class will be in the Vinyasa style. Enjoy creating a sense of overall balance and wellbeing with this mixed class.
Great for any level student who is ready to flow in and out of postures with ease.

Vinyasa

'Vinyasa' - often interpreted in the West to mean 'Flow', or the flowing movement between base postures. In this type of class the student will 'flow' between poses with movement and breath, keeping the body in motion for much of the practice while maintaining a focus on breath/body synchronization. Variations of postures will be suggested for different level students. Class will start with Sun Salutations and move through standing, balancing, and seated postures. Inversions and backbends may be practiced. This both introspective and energizing class is appropriate for the student with some knowledge of poses and who desires a physical practice blended with deep awareness. Center yourself while enjoying the side effects of flexibility, stamina, and endurance.
Class length: 1 hr 15 min. to 1.5 hrs

Level II Vinyasa

This 'flow' class is recommended for students who have a solid knowledge of intermediate/advanced postural alignment and who prefer strong physical movement in their practice. Inversions, backbends, hand balancing poses, and advanced postures will be practiced within the vinyasa (flow).
Not suitable for beginners.
Class length: 1 hr 15 min

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is not about mastering difficult looking exercises.  It is very user-friendly.  Essentially, if you can breath you can do it!  Modifications are given for each exercise so everyone can always participate.  Whether you're in shape, out of shape, or wavering between the two, Kundalini Yoga will definitely work for you!  In these classes we will blend breathing, movement, stretching, meditation, chanting and the science of sequencing.  A typical class normally starts with a breathing exercise, followed by some spinal warm-ups and stretching, and finally a special set of movements called a Kriya.  One Kriya might focus on detoxifying the liver, or working through creative blocks, mastering your moods, or possibly developing will-power.  After completing the set we relax on our backs for a few minutes and end class with some form of meditation.  Whatever the focus, by the end of class you will feel energized and relaxed, focused and expansive, all at the same time.
A class that moves you...and not in the way you'd expect!
